Atlantic Council Appoints Gunter Thielen to its International Advisory Board

The “Atlantic Council of the United States”, one of the foremost think-tanks in Washington, has appointed Bertelsmann’s Chairman & CEO Gunter Thielen to its new “President’s International Advisory Board” (PIAB). Other members of the advisory board are the chief executive officers of Deutsche Bank, Josef Ackermann, and of EADS, Thomas Enders, as well as the CEOs of the Royal Bank of Scotland, Lockheed Martin, Lucent-Alcatel, Novartis, Pearson and SAS. The 26 members of the PIAB also include Spain’s former Prime Minister José Maria Aznar and Aleksander Kwasniewski, former President of Poland.

The council’s work centers on the question of what issues and new developments Europeans and Americans will have to tackle in the future to jointly and successfully shape the 21st century.

At the first meeting of the PIAB in Washington, Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman, Alan Greenspan, former chairman of the Federal Reserve, and General James L. Jones, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander, received awards for their achievements and services rendered to transatlantic partnership.
