September 20, 2004 - Michael Smellie, Chief Operating Officer, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, today announced the new Sony BMG management group for the company's operations in territories outside the U.S., which will be overseen by the following executives, all reporting directly to Mr. Smellie:
- Tim Bowen, Sony BMG U.K./Canada/Australia/New Zealand/South Africa
- Richard Denekamp, Sony BMG Asia
- Maarten Steinkamp, Sony BMG Continental Europe
- Frank Welzer, Sony BMG Latin

Sony BMG Asia will not include Sony BMG's operations in Japan, BMG Funhouse, which will continue to be overseen by Tim Prescott, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer and managed by company president Mr. Hide Tashiro.
Tim Bowen most recently served as Chairman and CEO, BMG U.K. and Ireland since early 2002, a position he assumed shortly after joining BMG as Chief Operating Officer for BMG Europe. Previously he served as Executive Vice President for Universal Music International, where he was responsible for Legal and Business Affairs, Commercial Operations, New Media and Eastern Europe. Mr. Bowen had joined Universal Music International in the position of Senior Vice President of Marketing and Business Affairs in 1994. Prior to that he served as Managing Director of Columbia Records, UK, having started his career with Sony Music in the UK in Business Affairs, followed by four years in New York as Head of Sony Music Publishing International.
Richard Denekamp served as President, Asia, for Sony Music International(SMI) since 1997, having previously served as Senior Vice President for the region. Mr. Denekamp began his career in the music business in 1972 with EMI in the Netherlands. Mr. Denekamp joined CBS Records/Sony Music Holland in
1986 as Deputy Managing Director, and was named General Manager of the Record Division in September 1987. In 1989 he became Managing Director, Sony Music Holland, and in 1992 was promoted to Senior Vice President, European Region, where he was responsible for the oversight of 13 European markets. In 1994, Mr. Denekamp joined SMI headquarters in New York as Senior Vice President, Sony Music International, where in addition to overseeing the Asia region he headed its international marketing and business development units and assisted the president in the day-to-day management of SMI's operating companies. |
